The veracity of medical research conclusions, specifically trauma research, has always fascinated me. However, having read thousands of research papers over the years, I am no longer surprised when these easy-to-digest blurbs don’t entirely match up with the actual details embedded within the manuscript.

A new study conducted by the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) aimed to determine whether LGG could reduce the severity of gastroenteritis in children. The trial found that LGG did not significantly improve outcomes compared to placebo. Why is this important for patients and caregivers ?

This is the sad state of disparities research. Researchers want to correct a *difference* in health utilization, but they are too ignorant to understand the evidence for that intervention. Disparities research in medicine often feels hopeless. It's almost important to have truthful research.

Researchers at the Hubrecht Institute in the Netherlands have developed a biobank of cancer organoids using tissue samples obtained from head and neck cancer patients. Organoids are tiny 3D tissue constructs that have been created by researchers to mimic a specific tissue, or in this case, a type of cancer.

While previous studies have examined the outcomes of patients discharged at scene, none have specifically focused on paramedic-initiated discharge.

We aimed to develop a UT measure and assess associations with doctor-related factors (eg, experience), patient outcomes (eg, reattendance) and resource use (eg, episode costs). Multilevel regression explored associations between doctor-level factors, resource use and patient outcomes. Results 39 doctors were matched with 384 patients.

Except there’s one problem… I never had anyone actually teach me how to read a research paper… Do I read it like a book? Most traditional research papers have these key sections. The problem is that most research studies are imperfect and have biases. Pay attention to what primary and secondary outcomes were specified.
