Diagnosis can be confirmed with ultrasound (for deep vein thrombosis) or CT angiography (CTA) chest (for pulmonary embolism) and patients treated with anticoagulants. This may also predispose a patient to sepsis, peritonitis, or bowel infarction, which need to be recognized quickly.
