Tragically, several attempts at resuscitation upon arrival at the emergency department were unsuccessful. Awake fiberoptic intubation where the patient consents, co-operative AND the airway is prepared with local anaesthesia. Rocuronium ( a muscle relaxant ) alone was administered as he became combative. Ben was awake but paralysed.
