For example: in a study on stroke, if the mean age of participants in the treatment arm is 25 years, compared to 75 years in the placebo arm, are the results going to be valid? Do the measured outcomes actually answer the research question? What analysis have they used for their outcomes?

Glyn Elwyn and I wrote in a 2018 paper “in the vast majority of circumstances, the only outcome of relevance for EBP (evidence-based practice) is to measure whether a shared decision was made.” If you believe this is your job, then shared-decision making will often be an almost obstructionist concept.
