The stay in the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) was further complicated by sepsis, delirium, GI bleeding, and anuric renal failure with need for renal replacement therapy. A lower extremity radiograph does not reveal any gas formation and an ultrasound of the lower extremity is negative for DVT or cobblestoning, WBC is within normal limits and there are mild elevations in ESR and CRP.
