The stepwise approach was guided by vital signs, presence of seizures or focal neurology, presence of trauma (including attempted hanging or cutting), overdoses and substance misuse, level of consciousness, medical complaints, history of alleged sexual assault/rape, and developmental delay. This was presented as a simple algorithm.
