For a completed abortion, you would expect a closed OS with no IUP on ultrasound with a previously documented IUP. However, if necessary, it’s certainly appropriate as long as there is a documented discussion of the risk and benefits with the patient. For a threatened abortion, the os would be closed with an IUP seen on ultrasound.
