A 2019 meta-analysis of 19 observational studies including 3,012 patients published in the Journal of Intensive Care found PCT to have a pooled sensitivity of 80% and specificity of 75% for the diagnosis of sepsis; this study also found presepsin, a newer biomarker, to have comparable sensitivity and specificity to PCT [53].
