In 2020, 111 First was introduced to triage patients before entry to the ED and to offer direct booking for patients needing ED or urgent care into same-day arrival time slots. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and coded inductively by the primary researcher.

A First Look at Emergency Department Data for 2022

The performance of EDs in 2020 and into 2021 changed abruptly, and that carried through into 2022. ED leaders worked to develop new physician documentation and coding guidelines that needed to be implemented at the beginning of 2023. Patient volume losses in 2020 reversed in 2021. Boarding times crashed all types of EDs.
