Nachi: And just last year we saw the 2017-2018 influenza epidemic with record-breaking ED visits. The 2017-2018 vaccine was only 40% effective, but this still translates to 40% less severe cases and a subsequent decrease in hospitalizations and death. This was the deadliest season since 1976 with at least 80,000 deaths.
