There are many types of shock which may affect children, and management is specific to the type of shock. The overall goal in managing any cause of shock is to restore oxygen delivery to the organs.

Ann Emerg Med 2017 [6] This was a retrospective database review of 7521 traumatic brain injury patients SBP target ≥90mmHg resulted in a mortality of 7.8% vs SBP target <90mmHg which resulted in a mortality of 33.4% NEJM 1994. Be careful if the patient has received a recent blood transfusion since it may be misinterpreted as sickle cell trait instead of sickle cell disease. In these cases, repeat the Hb electrophoresis three months after the last blood transfusion. Would you consider this patient for blood transfusion?

Perinatal Blood Loss: Significant blood loss during delivery, whether due to placental abruption, vasa previa, or traumatic delivery, can result in anaemia and subsequent hypotension. If anaemia is confirmed, a blood transfusion may be necessary to restore adequate circulatory volume and improve oxygen-carrying capacity.
