16 In resource-constrained settings, rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) on stool samples offer a viable option. Oral antibiotic administration should take place for patients with severe cholera infection as soon as they are able to tolerate oral intake, which usually occurs after rehydration and administration of antiemetics.
