I recently gave a talk on the initial management of trauma patients with hemorrhagic shock. Clinical Take Home Point: In patients with TBI and hypovolemic shock, target a SBP or MAP ≥90mmHg, but know this is based on limited evidence. vs SBP target <90mmHg which resulted in a mortality of 33.4%

The patient was in shock on arrival in the ED — and multiple blood transfusions were needed. ANSWERS regarding ECG #1: Severe trauma requiring blood transfusions is a common emergency presentation. Blood and fluid volume was rapidly restored, and acidosis was probably quickly corrected.

The condition increases blood viscosity and pulmonary vascular resistance, leading to pulmonary hypertension, haemodynamic collapse, and, ultimately, death due to hypoxaemia and refractory shock. Between 2002 and 2015, 200 infants with pertussis were placed on ECMO, but only 56 survived, representing a survival rate of just 28%.
